It has been 71 years since the Battle of Crete that unfolded on this island between 20 May and 01 Jun 1941. Tempo Holidays is now proud to introduce its exclusive 6-days package, a self-drive itinerary including Galatas, Maleme & Rethymnon.
Day 1 Athens
Upon arrival at Athens airport you will be met and transferred to your hotel.
Day 2 Athens – Crete
Late afternoon transfer to Piraeus to board your overnight ferry to Crete. (B)
Day 3 Galatas – Maleme
On arrival, you will be met by a Kosmos representative to collect your rental vehicle. Drive to Galatas, famous for the five-day defence by the non-infantry, drivers, suppliers and artillery men of the 10th New Zealand Brigade between 20 and 25 May 1941. Continue on to Maleme to visit Hill 107 where you can admire uninterrupted views of Maleme airport and the German Cemetery & Museum. Overnight Chania. (B)
Day 4 Rethymnon
After breakfast, travel along the coast to Rethymnon and the village of Stavromenos to visit the Hellenic-Australian memorial. In the afternoon return to Chania. (B)
Day 5 Sfakia
Drive over the White Mountains to the small coastal village of Sfakia, evacuation point for thousands of ANZACs. When passing through Askifou stop at the local private Battle of Crete Museum (entrance fees not included). (B)
Day 6 Chania
After breakfast, drive to Chania airport.
